Norman Studios Silent Film Museum Tour

Norman Studios is a major piece of Florida and American film history hiding in Jacksonville’s Arlington neighborhood. It is the last surviving silent-film studio complex from the period when Jacksonville was known as the “Winter Film Capital of the World.” In 1916, Jacksonville had more than 30 motion-picture companies operating in the area.

Members will have an opportunity to tour portions of the historic Norman Studios complex and view exhibits.

Documentary Screening: Hollywood East

This approximately 30-minute documentary explores Jacksonville’s silent film history, beginning with the arrival of early motion-picture companies in the city and examining the people, locations and circumstances that helped Jacksonville become one of America’s earliest filmmaking centers. The documentary also examines why the motion-picture industry eventually left Jacksonville and highlights the lasting importance of Richard Norman and Norman Studios.
