Gary Lester holds a bachelor’s degree in photography from the University of Central Florida. He earned a graduate certificate in Visual Arts from Harvard, and has accumulated 18 graduate credits in Motion Picture Production from the Academy of Art University in San Francisco.
Gary’s film debut as an actor occurred in 2001 when he appeared in Flamingo Rising on the Hallmark Hall of Fame. Gary’s list of documentary film credits as a director include Fuzzy Little People, Eyewitness to History, The Weatherwax Legacy, and Safe Haven: The Warsaw Zoo, which premiered in the Academy Awards Blue Room at the historic Hotel Roosevelt in Hollywood. From 2009-2011, Gary worked as second unit director and assistant director for legendary producer/director Ted V. Mikels in his last two Astro-Zombies sequels: Astro-Zombies M3: Cloned and Astro-Zombies M4: Invaders from Cyberspace. Gary’s first feature length documentary illustrates the special bond that exists between animals and humans. Titled Our Forever Friends, it features child star Beverly Washburn (Old Yeller) and author Charlie Carlson (Weird Florida). In 2012, Gary also worked as second unit director for a Spanish horror production – Corpse-Grinders 3. He also released another documentary short film -- Hollywood & Beyond, starring Johnny Martino (The Godfather) and based on the book A Wish Beyond the Stars. In 2019, Gary collaborated with Bob Weatherwax, owner and trainer of Lassie, to produce the award-winning Taking Hollywood by Storm: The Weatherwax Trained Dogs.
