Conversation with Producer/Screenwriter Anna Alias

June 15th

@ 6PM EST

Bio:

Anna began her career as Don Johnson’s assistant on MIAMI VICE. She went on to work in production on such shows and features as IN THE HEAT OF THE NIGHT, NELL, THE RAINMAKER, THE CLIENT, 12 MONKEYS, A TIME TO KILL, and PRACTICAL MAGIC. Anna produced a series of short films, including HEREDITARY MISFORTUNE that won the 2003 Jury Prize at the Beverly Hills Film Festival. Since then, she has written and co-written several original feature and TV scripts, several paid assignments, and a non-fiction book adaptation with and for an award winning, A-list actor. Her first novel, The Vessels, released in July, 2020. It is a supernatural, sci-fi thriller trilogy. Anna is currently adapting the pilot for TV.

Work Highlight

Anna’s lifelong passion for diversity, equality and justice translated to her work. This was especially true on the set of John Grisham’s A TIME TO KILL. Canton, Mississippi had just suffered great racial hardship and division in a Mayoral race. With Anna’s encouragement, the movie crew took extra steps to befriend, buy from, and work with the all of townspeople in equal measure, and it served to break down walls of racial inequality and injustice that had divided the town for decades. The impact was so positive that Dan Rather taped a 2-part special about it for 48 Hours.

Brand:

Anna loves to write compelling, mainstream stories with non-mainstream and diverse characters, especially women, who defy expectations and buck the system for some kind of social justice or reform.
