Orlando’s News 96.5 WDBO has an immediate opening for a part time producer/board-op. This producer position will put you right in the middle of a fast paced news environment.  You will be technical producer for syndicated shows as well as breaking news and severe weather situations. This position will work closely with our news team, and is a vital part of the operation.  Candidates should be able to run a board and feel confident on air.


Responsibilities:

  • First and foremost – Flawless technical execution (running the board) for syndicated talk shows as well as breaking news and severe weather events.
  • Must run a ‘tight’ board and follow format clock.
  • Will operate Wheatstone Console, Wide Orbit Automation, ISDNs, Comrex Access and other broadcast equipment.
  • Will contribute to content prep, production, idea generation, and other duties related to the execution of content.   
  • Update and maintain station website/social media.
  • Monitor multiple sources for breaking news, traffic problems and weather alerts.
  • Help gather/generate news content for newscasts and live shows.

Qualifications

  • Prefer 2-3 years of on-air and production experience.  
  • Previous experience with Wide Orbit automation systems and radio console is a plus.
  • Should be proficient in Adobe Audition or similar audio editing software.
  • Should be proficient with Windows/Microsoft Office.

Content is king and driving all personalities to deliver content is key.

NEWS

Qualifications

Job Description

Grants and Gifts Officer serves as a development/community investment team member in developing and writing grant proposals to foundations, private and corporate organization, and government agencies in order to obtain funding for WUCF activities, and works in cooperation with Major Gift Officer to steward major donors and secures gifts from prospects in order to generate financial support for WUCF.

GRANTS ACTIVITIES: 60%
Creates a strategic grants plan aligned with the overall direction for WUCF activities in collaboration with leadership team.

Responsible for writing, developing and implementing grant proposals with input from affected functional areas in WUCF. Coordination typically includes the development and writing of grant proposals, supervising grant approval process and working with team members in post-award effort, and works with Finance and Administration in WUCF on compliance. Ensures all deadlines are met.

Manages grant life-cycle communications with related constituencies, follows up with funding agencies and Finance and Administration staff as necessary.

Researches information and data necessary for grants and reporting.

Researches new funding opportunities available through local, state, and federal government agencies, as well as through private and corporate foundations.

Reads and interprets requests for proposals and funding guidelines from government agencies and foundations to determine if appropriate for college and how best to respond and comply.
Coordinates with the Research Foundation, Office of Research, and UCF Foundation for proposal submission and award management.

Monitors outstanding grant proposals. Follows up with funding agency as necessary.

Maintains necessary records, files, reports, databases, and resource materials pertinent to Grants Office activities.

Coordinates receipt of awards and contract documentation and prepares and submits scheduled and special reports required by the grant. Reporting to include tracking and fulfilling any grant reports due after grant completion, i.e. yearly status update or equipment inventory updates.

Works with Finance and Administration in finalizing grant budgets for correct calculation of expenditure categories such as salaries, percent of effort, salary adjustment increases, fringe benefits, indirect costs, materials, and equipment.

Interpret sponsor proposal guidelines and regulations to ensure administration and financial compliance with proposal submissions and award terms and conditions.

DEVELOPMENT ACTIVITIES: 40%
Supports the Director of Development and the Major Gifts Officer by managing list of individuals or groups who have propensity to give in order to qualify candidates for cultivation efforts.

Develops compelling case for support by involving other departments, staff, and community groups to communicate the rationale for supporting the organization’s fundraising program.

Ask for and secure gifts from prospects in order to generate financial support for WUCF.

Prepares donor centric solicitation materials in order to influence and facilitate informed gift decisions.

Performs other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

Master’s degree in an appropriate area of specialization; or a bachelor’s degree in an appropriate area of specialization and two years of appropriate experience.

PHOTOGRAPHER/SAT TRUCK OPERATOR (Regular Full Time / Orlando):  Shoots and edits video and audio for newscasts, news programming, promotion and other station related purposes.  Operates ENG vehicles and equipment and SNG vehicle and equipment as needed.  Use good editorial and visual judgment.  Create and add special effects to recorded pieces.  Meet broadcast deadlines. 

Self-motivated, creative storyteller with strong photography and editing skills and a full understanding of live and satellite truck operations.  Working knowledge of: P-2 camera systems and AVID/Adobe Premier edit systems, Dejero/LiveU backpacks, lighting and sound equipment, and newsroom computer systems considered a plus. BA in communications/journalism, or equivalent experience and at least 2 years’ experience as a photographer/editor and satellite truck operator in a television news department is preferred.  Willingness and ability to travel for story assignments. Must have valid driver’s license and good driving record.

 

PRODUCER (Regular Full Time / Orlando):  Produce and meet strategic goals for assigned newscasts.  Create newscasts with impact by writing stories and teases creatively and effectively.  Research and present compelling story ideas at daily editorial meetings.  Utilize social media tools to engage and attract viewers.  Strong creative writing skills and editorial judgment are a must.  Working knowledge of newsroom computer systems, the Internet, graphic and production equipment, ENG & SNG remotes is desirable.  College degree in an applicable discipline such as broadcast journalism.  A minimum of 2 years’ experience in a television news department producing newscasts.  Must work well under deadline pressure during breaking news.

 

ASSIGNMENT EDITOR (Regular Full Time / Orlando):  Responsible for gathering story info from various news sources and determining the newsworthiness. Keep news staff apprised of breaking news and changes in assignments.  Plan news stories for future coverage and coordinate coverage for special events.  Make beat check calls to law enforcement and other governmental agencies. Communicate with affiliates to ensure continuity in coverage. Write, edit and post stories on the station’s website and social media platforms; on-air, on-line, in-mobile and social.  A minimum of two years’ experience in TV news, including assignment desk experience preferred.
